Thankfully, due to the intense popularity AJAX has gained, some work has been done in this area, notably on http://ajaxpatterns.org/ and a few books, but this area of P&P is still young. And with 70+ patterns, even the patterns, much less the technology, are a lot to learn and keep up with.
